Human Rights Offenders in Asia: Role of the United Nations

A seminar was arranged on “Human Rights Offenders in Asia: Role of the United Nations” on 10 December 2016 at the auditorium of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies(BIISS). The seminar was attended by experts in the area of Politics, International Relations, Security, Academy, Laws, Diplomacy, Geopolitics, Human Rights Activist as well as Policy Practitioners among others. The guest of honor of the event was Air Vice Marshal A.G. Mahmud (Retd), Former Minister and Chief of Staff, Bangladesh Air Force and Barrister Sara Hossain, Lawyer and Human Rights Activist. S. M. Ali Reza, Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Dhaka, presented the keynote paper. Prof. Dr. M Ataur Rahman, Chairman, Bangladesh Political Science Association & Chairman, CGS, Chaired the event and Zillur Rahman, Executive Director, CGS & political analyst moderated the event. The honorable chief guests, keynote speaker, and the distinguished speakers expressed their concern on the Human Rights Offenders in Asia with a special focus on the ‘Rohingya Crisis’.


The keynote speaker in his keynote paper discussed the role of the United Nations and the recurrent human rights violations in Asia. The speakers of the event described the ‘Rohingya Crisis’ as an international issue and they should not have allowed entering the country freely. They also opined that it might cause a security threat to the country. However, human rights activists opposed the opinions of others and stated that ‘Rohingya’ people should be treated in a humanitarian manner.
